Mother Urban

Rachel Beulah Urban (Mother Urban) is the legendary madame of Park City. She lived from 1864-1933 and with the help of her husband, she built and ran Park City’s red light district, now Deer Valley Drive. She is storied to have been a guardian for the working women in her care; housing them, feeding them, advocating for them, and educating them.
Cold Plunge into Bloods Lake

The Bloods Lake trail is about a 3-mile out-and-back hiking path at Guardsman Pass with a frigid lake lying at 9,500 feet. The trail and the lake are named after a pioneering family, the Bloods.
Church of Dirt

The “Church of Dirt” operated as a free, open-air wedding venue near Guardsman Pass for over a decade. Betrothed would write their names and wedding date on a rock and lay it in the dirt near the site, hoping to reserve the makeshift chapel. The city demolished the structure in October 2023 after overuse caused environmental erosion.
Team Jelly Bean and the Cookie Races

The picture inspiration for this painting was taken in March of 2024 when my daughter (far right in the tutu) was six. The Cookie Races mark the end of a 10-week ski program at Canyons and Park City Mountain with a “race” to the bottom of the Red Pine Gondola whereupon they win cookie medals and hot cocoa.
