Join local watercolor artist Morgan McCue in crafting hand-painted stationery. Learn to play with and appreciate the natural fluidity of the watercolor medium by painting freely and abstractly. As the painting dries, you will recognize “accidental” works of art forming within the abstraction. Using various shaped paper punches, we will trim the most beautiful parts of your painting and mount them on cards. Each card will be a one-of-a-kind art piece and you will have the option of embossing a message below it with hundreds of stamps and different colored embossing powders to choose from.
Wine and light refreshments will be served.

No Rules 2.0: Reinventing Reality Through Interactive Art: When I asked my last class to define Street Art, words like “vandalism”, “illegal” and, graffiti” were thrown around. This is interesting because Street Art in its contemporary form has largely separated itself from these stereotypes. Cities have embraced urban expression by commissioning huge murals and celebrating flash art and unsanctioned installations. This class will focus on present-day influencers like CJ Hendry and her Pink Chair project, Kobra and his iconic murals, and Wasatch Back’s own vibrant street art scene. I will challenge students to see the physical world as a creative playground by bringing in odd materials each week to work with. The end goal is to transform the classroom into a group installation inspired entirely by their own unique ideas and impulses. On the last day, friends and family will be invited to attend the opening (and closing) of the exhibition. The goal is to inspire and empower students to think outside the box and value their own unique expressions.

Creative expression is infinite and there are no boundaries. There is no better way to illustrate that, than by trying different forms of art from around the world and across history. From Gyotaku (traditional Japanese fish printing), to Pop Art, students will explore their own creative expressions through the lens of four, very different art styles. The class will allow students to try different techniques, while learning about their historical context. At the end of the fourth and final class, we will host a gallery show for friends and family. Students will be encouraged to give a brief presentation on one of their favorite pieces/processes.
